How do you improve upon perfection? We"re not sure, but the guru of carbon fiber, Markus Storck, apparently has a pretty good idea. With the Storck Fenomalist, Markus took a frame with one of the highest independently-tested stiffness-to-weight ratios in the world, and made it perfectly suited for both mechanical and electronic shift systems. How does it handle? Phenomenally -- pun intended. But really, the Fenomalist is an experience in what hand-built carbon mastery is capable of achieving. Starting with the carbon, Markus Storck based the construction of the Fenomalist around its proprietary woven carbon fiber. The reasons for woven fibers are stacking. Unlike the uni-directional carbon fibers found in the Scentron, the Fenomalist"s woven fibers are oriented on two or more axes. Like it sounds, the fibers are woven, almost like a knit, and accordingly, the fibers handle flexural and tensile loads on multiple axes harmoniously as a collective. So, in even simpler terms, ask yourself a question: What"s stronger, a rope or an unwoven collection of rope fibers? In its application, this theory proves to supply more impact resistance, durability, and more importantly, a higher stiffness-to-weight ratio. In fact, upon its introduction in 2011, the independent German testing laboratory, AFBB, concluded that the Fenomalist held the highest stiffness-to-weight ratio of any bike on the market. Now, its only competitor in this field, and by a very slim margin, is the Storck Fascenario 0.7 G2. However, it"s worth noting that Storck"s testing has concluded that the Fenomalist does feature both a stiffer head tube and bottom bracket than the 0.7 G2.
